20 May 2013 : Running tonight: meet @ Celtic Manor lower convention car park
Fellow NEWT's,

Please meet at Lower Convention Car Park for running tonight at 18:45 meet for 19:00 prompt start. The session will be intervals based and take place in the woodland below the golf course, on sound trail paths.

For those that didn't come last week, come in to the Celric Manor complex at the bottom (from B4237 just off Coldra roundabout, opposite Holiday Inn entrance), then just follow the signs to convention car park when you come over the M4 bridge keep right past old Manor House you cant miss the car parks.

13 May 2013 : Open Water reminder
A quick update for everyone regarding Open Water

The first session is scheduled to take place THIS Wednesday 15th May
6.30pm meet for 6.45pm start.

So far the following members have booked to attend:
Gareth Beck, Ben McCreadie, Mostyn Thomas, Jane Mills, Linda Spillane, Deb Wood, Simon Marks, Peter Thomas, Helen Thomas, Rich Elgar, tim Lebbon, Kathryn Manley, Nathan Priest, Ryan McFlynn, Gareth Watkins, Alex Leadley, Paul Harmes, Ally Davies, Jamie Davies

Spotter 1 = Huw Morgan

If your name is not on this list and If you wish to attend Wednesday's OW session you MUST attend tomorrow nights pool session at NISV to book in.
No booking = No OW swim. No exceptions

We also need an extra spotter in order for the session to take place, so please can I request someone volunteers for this also and books in tomorrow night too, otherwise the session cannot go ahead

Also don't forget.....No membership card on Weds night = NO SWIM. No exceptions

trisuit/swim suit
wetsuit mandatory
potentially would reccomend a rash vest if cold
bright coloured hat mandatory
goggles
footwear to wear from car park to lake edge
warm clothes for afterwards
membership card

This weeks session will not be very long in duration, and will be skill and acclimatisation based.

Hi Guys

Slight change of plan for running on Monday 13th May

Meet in Lower Convention Car Park at Celtic Manor on Monday 13th due to breakdown from 
Celebrity Cup Event in the top overflow car park 

For those who have run here before it's the run trails through the woods

Just follow the signs to convention car park when you come over the bridge keep right past old Manor House
you cant miss the car parks. 

We are expecting the Car Park to be open from the 15th in time for our 1st open water session of the year at
 the Reservoir however we will keep you posted on possible car park changes

01 May 2013 : Amended: Important Information about Swimming and Running Sessions
Apologies all - but a slight change to the content of the Open water update below:

Important Information related to upcoming training sessions:


Open Water Swimming

- This is to confirm that there will be NO open water swimming tonight (1st May) due to low water temperature

- There will be NO OW swim session on Wednesday 8th May due to the venue being closed for the Golf Celebrity Cup event

- First OW swim session will take place on Wednesday 15th May

As this is two weeks away, we will restart bookings from next week for the first two sessions


Monday Night Running

- There will be NO run session on Monday 6th May due to bank holiday weekend

- Monday 13th and 20th May will take place from Celtic Manor - Meet at overflow car park (same one as OW) for 6.45pm for 7pm start as normal

- There will be NO swim session on Monday 27th May due to bank holiday weekend

- All Mondays in June will also take place from Celtic Manor - Meet at overflow car park (same one as OW) for 6.45pm for 7pm start as normal

Swimming Time Trial Night

As mentioned at the club meeting on Monday, we will look to change one Tuesday night swim every 3 months to a Time Trial night.
The first one will take place on Tuesday 18th June in the normal swim time of 7.30 - 8.30pm
You have the option to complete a TT in one of the following distances:
400m
750m
1500m
1900m (must be able to complete in sub 55 mins)

There is no need to book in, just turn up and pay Mary as normal and we'll allocate lanes, lane counters and timers on arrival.

08 Apr 2013 : NEWT Club Champs

Well done to all NEWT's who took part in the 1st club championship race of the year, ISCA Duathlon yesterday in Caerleon
Some excellent performances from long standing and new members as well as experienced and new racers. This was the biggest turn out ever from NEWT for a championship race and the yellow and black was evident!

James Elgar            NEWT Club Champion and 2nd Senior Male overall
Bethan Fowler         NEWT Club Champion and 1st Senior Female overall
Sian Jones, Jane Standerwick, Mark Balch, Nicola Beck, Martyn Bidwell and Pete Thomas who all achieved podium places in their respective age categories.

It's not a championship race, but we think the following event would be a great race to target as a club and get as many members competing as possible. There are a choice of 3 different distances, it's not too far to travel and a great way for all levels of NEWT abilities to take part at the same time.....

Don't forget that we have moved onto our summer running programme of various locations around Newport.

Monday 25th March will be the FINAL Track session for the winter season....

Monday 1st April...there will be NO session due to Easter Bank Holiday.....we're very kind and letting you have the night off.

From Monday 8th April we wil begin our summer programme which is a rotation of venues around Newport every 4-6 weeks. The first venue will be Newport Civic Centre - bottom car park. Meet for 6.45pm for 7.00pm start as usual. Please make sure you are on time, as the group and coach will depart from the car park at 7pm prompt.

As always these sessions are group interval sessions, and therefore all abilities are welcome.
